Peterson Clothing began operations in 1999 as a custom clothing business. Owners Barbara and James Peterson started the business as a home party operation. Starting with hats, scarves, vests and jackets, the company was a success in no time. Peterson Clothing expanded by incorporating and opening a retail location in Central New York in 2003. Barbara and James rounded out their custom clothing business by adding fabrics, sewing classes and bus trips to the New York City Garment District.

In June 2004, Peterson Clothing LLC launched their Custom Home Decorating Line. The collection consists of kente table runners with matching place mats, mud cloth throw pillows, doupioni silk throw pillows, their famous ‘family reunion’ aprons and more. Continuing their expansion, the Petersons now unveil their web-based effort, African and Silk Fabrics (a subsidiary of Peterson Clothing LLC). African and Silk Fabrics will introduce their African inspired accessory collection in June 2005. This much awaited collection will include charmeuse silk wraps trimmed with woven kente, doupioni silk wraps, and silk evening bags with a touch of kente. For men the collection will also include silk ties, kofis and vests. These items will be readily available on the website. Customers will also have the option of custom ordering these items in the fabrics available on the website.

The Petersons’ goal and mission is to offer quality, custom African items. The creativity of the company’s design division insures that their goals will be met.

The Petersons reside in Syracuse, New York. Their children are: Kammal, Leilani, Rhea, Ashley and Kamille.
